Default The Madras Regiment 1945-1946

During this time period was there a British made badge and a theatre (Indian) made badge for this regiment? Did they also have a formation flash which they wore on there headgear?

The badge you show is not from the 1945-1946 period. It is the badge from 1950-present.

Before 1950 the badge had a king's crown in place of the elephant.

There are British made versions of this short lived badge and presumably others made by Indian contractors. There would also be a difference in quality between those isued to officers and those issued to other ranks.

I would imagine that the Madras Regiment had its own pagri flash based on its regimental colours, but it would only have been worn on certain types of head wear such as slouch hats during this period. If a formation sign was worn, it would be that of the Division it was attached to, or possibly the Army or command it belonged to, e.g. 12th Army, ALFSEA or SEAC.

@Painted Steel. And please take into account that there were up to seven battalions. Those would have been attached to different higher units and thus each would possibly have had a different formation sign. And a battalion could also switch division or (other command) and thus could have had different formation signs in the period.
