Plaque for 59 (asten ) Battery R.A.
Picked up the attached plaque this morning ( will be offering for sale for not very much in due course )
I was surprised at the American Eagle in the crest and I did wonder if the plaque was a made up piece. Can anyone please tell me anything about the Battery ? Thanks P.B.

Hi Peter,
My scant knowledge on this puts 59th Bty as a trg Bty at Woolwich from the 60’s thru to 90’s Asten is a WW2 battle honour won by the (25th Regt) RA whilst under command of the US 7th Armd Div. Asten is in Holland and had an ominous nickname Snipers Corner Paul |

The Honour Title 'Asten' was bestowed on 59 Battery RA on the 24th of January 1951, in recognition of the actions of 25 Field Battery RA during 1944, when they supported the defensive action of the US 7th Armoured Division in the area of 'Asten', for which they were awarded the United States Presidential Citation.
I can only imagine that the design on the plaque is to show a connection between the RA and the US Army. The 25th was renumbered 59th on the 1st of April 1947. Marc

59 Asten Battery - and Oman
I have just joined and noted the posts on 59 Battery and Oman. I appreciate that the exchanges were from 2018 and may have all been resolved but I am happy to contribute if appropriate; I served in 59 Battery at Woolwich in 1976, and in Oman from 1987 to 1989...
