Desert Rats
A pair of woven 7th Armoured Division formation signs I picked up while visiting the UK recently. They came in a wooden box with the 'Desert Rats' jerboa emblem inlaid on the lid, a pair of GVIR King's Crown RHA collars (could also be beret badges as I believe they wore them as such) and a pair of brass RHA shoulder titles. Will try to post pictures of the rest soon.

Nice pair, of Italian manufacture if I'm not mistaken.

Luc, what makes you say they're Italian?

I think they look more like the Brabant type, also I'm not sure if they started to wear the rat on black until they came back to UK to refit for D Day

Lee, pardon my ignorance, but what's the "Brabant type"?

They seem similar to these Italian made badges.

They are fairly similar but I'm sure 7th Armoured were back in UK before Italian production started, I think it was late 44

I'm hoping one of these is suitable to represent the 2nd Battalion Devonshire Regiment in my collection, when the 50th Infantry Division was disbanded in November 1944 and they were transferred to the 7th Armoured Division.
They were in Northern Europe at the time so locally produced Brabant weave sort of makes sense, is that what I have here in the smaller badge? And is this larger badge a German produced Bevo example? Rob |

Here is my one which looks to be hand embroidered. It isn't in the best condition and I've had better ones but it came from the Green Jackets museum so has some relevance to the badges that it is displayed with.
Nice to see all the other examples shown and to have the different types explained. Regards to all Ry Last edited by Charlie585; 21-11-13 at 02:24 PM. |
