Dont know if anyone was watching but a 'unoffical bonniface' 1st pattern GMP badge sold for £310. Now some purists may throw their hands up in horror as this was never sanctioned so was never an offical badge. I like it all the same and think it was nicer than the offical issue. The officers version is really a stunner.

Steve,

Please post an example of the officers' unofficial badge, if you have one. I agree, ithe unofficial badge is a nicer badge. Slightly off topic, I remember when the RMP armlet was changed from red on black to the awful (imo) black on red. Sometimes change was/is made for change sake so that a legacy can be left by an outgoing senior officer. I won't start about the scarlet beret!

MW.

Hi,
Attached is a picture of the officers Cap and a single collar. The crown and scroll are gilded. I wish they were mine. I cannot give credit to the picture as it was amongst a batch supplied to me when I started researching the GMP Insignia by members of the RMP assoc who served in the unit. I agree about the armband tho. The GMP did not wear the scarlet beret but a blue one.

Regards
Steve

Thank you very very nice. It is interesting to see that the officers one appears to have just had the crown and scroll gilded on the OR badge. I take it that it is not a seperate casting overlaid onto the badge ??
regards

Steve

The badge scrolls and crown are gilded not separate entities. The other difference is the reverse of each, 'officers' has lugs and 'soldiers' has wide slider.

Dear Steve and Oriskany,
I watched the auction details of the GMP (1st Pattern) unofficial issue cap badge on ebay. As this is a very RARE badge, I knew that the bidding will end at a very high price.
This is one of the Gurkha badge that I am after. After being an ebay member for 3 years, this is the first time I have seen this badge appear on the ebay auction. I am not surprised at the ending price of GBP 310/- but had a feeling that it could have gone up further. "KUDOS" to the successful bidder. I would have had "No Regrets" If I had paid that much for this lovely
bonniface design.
All I can do is to wait (do not know when) another bonniface GMP badge will appear on eBay. My only hope is that it comes out at the righ time when my pocket is full.
I am starting my waiting from now........

As a new member today I was searching Military Police and see threads on Gurkha Military Police and saw I was mentioned, yes I bought the GMP cap badge on ebay, I have been collecting since I was 13 and specialised in Military Police worldwide for the age of 18 now 48 so its been a while to find one of these and was over the moon to win it to say the least.

Default Gurkha Military Police cap badge

I have just purchased this from a retired RMP guy with other insignia and would welcome comments on it it. It appears to be a silver gilt type badge.

Default GURKHA MP BADGE

RBJ,

This looks like a genuine Gurkha MP Officer's/WO1's gilt GMP cap badge - official pattern.

I only have an OR's AA official pattern and the Officer's unoffical (Bonniface) version in my collection, so well done you as this is a comparatively rare badge given (by definition) the realtively small numbers of Officers (both British and QGOs) and of WO1s who served in GMP, together with its very short life. I have posted elsewhere about the Gurkha MP History if you are interested.

Regards,

Jeremy
