Default ROYAL MILITARY COLLEGE

Hi

I'm trying to find out what buttons would have been worn by Cadets at the Royal Military College.
Howard Ripley shows buttons worn by RMA Woolwich and RMA Sandhurst but is silent on RMC.
Might they just have been the General Service pattern?
Cheers
Sean

Hello Sean

An interesting query! Not sure I have, personally, seen many Royal Military College buttons but this link may provide an answer - https://www.kellybadges.co.uk/173-na...-kingdom?p=182

You will have to scroll down the page a bit but there is a 'RMC' button shown. It is not clear whether this is a cadet button or a 'staff' button. Ian Kelly is usually pretty good with his descriptions.

Hi Roger
Many thanks for that, I'm sure it's right, not one I've ever seen before I must say, pity it isn't a lager example?
Cheers
Sean

Hi Sean

I agree this button seems to be a bit if a rare beast which is surprising really considering how many there should be around.

Perhaps it would be wise to wait and see if someone else can confirm that the initials 'RMC' are for Royal Military College!

Royal Military College Sandhurst Victorian Gentleman Cadet’s Full Dress Tunic. A scarce Victorian example. Scarlet uniform with blue facings and white piping to collar, fronts, skirts and pointed cuffs. Plain gold cord loops on shoulders and a row of gold rose lace above the left cuff. Brass Victorian Staff pattern buttons. Label to R.H.McClure. Scarlet cloth slightly faded, minimal moth damage, otherwise GC. Attributed to 2nd Lieut. Robert Hamilton McClure, 2nd Bn. Seaforth Highlanders, who was killed in action at Magersfontein, 11th Dec. 1899.

From a Bosleys auction. The buttons are Victorian Staff and not RMC.
