Hello Steve, The items in question sound like they are likely post First World War Canadian Machine Gun Corps badges. Being they are in wm, they would be officer's badges.

Hi Steve, They were used until 1936, when the CMGC battalions were amalgamated with infantry regiments, and those regiments were designated as Machine Gun. The CMGC "disappeared" as a corps. However, some officer's of the unit continued to wear the badges into the early Second World War. There was an interesting photo of an officer wearing the MG badges in a string on the 2nd Armoured Car Regiment? (Which I can't find right now...)

The British MGC went to white metal/silver for the last couple of years of their existence (1920-22) as well. Officer's small collars also became the cap badge.
