Default 3 badges help please.

Hello, I have listed a few badges in the for sale section and i had a email from a forum member expressing there concerns on 3 of the badges i have for sale. The last thing i want to do is unknowingly sell a re-strike as original so i took some better quality pictures this morning whilst the sun was out, if they are bad i shall remove them from the listing immediately but i just thought i would double check before they go in the junk box. Thank you in advance.

Kind regards, Stuart

Stuart,
IMO they are all restrikes or copies;

Munster Fus - Too flat, poor detail and long, thin & footed lugs!

17th Lancers - Die fault to forehead and lugs (99 times out of 100 a bad sign on a Motto).

Lincolns - Just look at the face - Pointy nose, no chin and comedy face, almost always a bad sign on a Lincolns badge, looks like it's about to give birth to a hedgehog Beside which the font is waffer thin! The paws are also a giveaway, the fakes look like a bunch of grapes rather than a paw and the ribs on the fakes always seem to be prouder (not eaten enough Pyramid workers )- Another copy IMO!

Best regards

Andy

Agree with Andy. Oddly enough I served with both the Lincolns and the 17/21L and I would say that they are both fakes. Also Andy is quite right to point out that the death's head is called the "motto" and NEVER, EVER the "badge".

Angry Re 17th Lancers Motto

G'day Stuart

I have had a good look at the Motto and agree with Andy and Dave.

There are a number of things wrong with it, it is the C1896 pattern with "ears" which were issued with lugs, however the lugs should be on the 2nd joint in the bones, not on the ends, the lugs should be small black lugs whereas your have shiny copper lugs and braze. The motto to be 100 years old should have some age and patina whereas yours is bright and shiny.

The 2 faults to look for in a Motto is a flaw in its left eye and die cracks in the skull above its right eye, these can extend from the eye socket to the top edge of the skull or only about half way from the top of the skull towards the eye socket.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I'd suggest that you take a big hammer to this one.

Regards

Phil.

PS G'day Dean.

Phil

As noted by others the Lincolns is a restrike for sure am afraid. Should not be a difficult badge to pick up in original condition. Have a look at my Lincolnshire album for a non-comedy face pre 1946 version of this badge that yours is supposed to represent.

Regards Dean.
