DIES
I have three lower dies for various KLR badges. One is a Firmin marked one with the central horse emblem that goes on the 1908 Patern Lpl Scottish.
The next is one for the separate scroll worn below the rose of a pre 1895 collar badge - marked R NEAL LONDON - they appear to be 'freelance' die cutters. My favourite is the 1939 Lpl Irish but it is very worn and I can't tell who the maker was - it should be Gaunt as they are the first firm to appear on the Min of Supplies ledgers for that unit. They have numbers on the sides and two have CDG on the lip - ?? The Lpl Irish has some illegible hieroglyphics on the base. I'd like to learn more about these things. Does anyone have a legible Gaunt one ?? Might there be enough interest to have a die section on the Forum !? |
