Oldham title
Does anyone know this title? It is embroidered on a heavy black braid and measures 6 x 2.6 cm.
I may be wrong but I seem to remember something about an artillery or engineers sub title with OLDHAM on it, but can't find where I saw it. Any comments would be welcome. |

It's probably more likely to be Home Guard or Civil Defence. That would be my guess.

Looks like a Canadian name tape.

Thank you for your comments, gentlemen. The supposition that it may be Canadian could well be correct, as originally this did come with a number of British items from Canada. Can any of our Canadian members throw any light on it? Is there an Oldham in Canada? Any further information or suggestions would be appreciated.

Sorry I meant a Canadian soldiers name tape not a place.

Thanks for correcting me. Now that you have mentioned nametapes, it could certainly be one as the thickness of the material on which it's embroidered could suggest this. I just hadn't thought of it being someone's name instead of refering to the town. That's probably what it is, so thanks for letting me know.

Just looking at the curved CD titles on Ian Kelly Militaria the colour scheme is right - yellow on dark blue. I can't think what sort of Canadian uniform it would be worn on.

Thanks for the further comments, gentlemen. The backing braid is definitely black, rather than Navy blue, but I suppose this could be a Navy name badge, despite this. I shall accept that which Marc says it is, unless anyone else comes up with something else.
Thanks for your efforts on this. |
