Default 42 RM 3RD Pattern knife

Hi All
Recent purchase, stamped 42 RM 3rd pattern knife which has been in a private collection for 30 yrs +. No maker mark or stamps, looks like the handle has been painted, and the sheath ww2 period.
Would like your thoughts on a possible maker, and if stamping the knive 42 was common practise.
Also has the guys name stamped into the sheath, STEEL
thanks
Brian

This knife is available for trade, for other knives if anyone interested?? would go good with Royal Marines Collectors.

Apart from commemorative FS daggers , I have never encountered one which was unit marked ... in fact when you think about , the clandestine nature of special forces / commandos makes marking your dagger rather counterproductive ! This 3rd Patt FS looks a good one to me , but I suspect the owner, Mr Steel, put his name on after he had left the service.

I think you will find that on a wartime issue knifes the crossguard is thicker, the cast lines on the sides of the handle were removed, the 4 and 2 were not stamped individually and are always found together with a broad arrow and there is a cast mold number on the handle.
In my view, a post-war commercially made knife that has been sexed up.
