Default BRITISH TROOPS ENTER BERLIN.

BU 8553
The first two British soldiers in Berlin. They escorted Major General L. O. Lyne, G. O. C. 7th Armoured Division into Berlin, to arrange with the Russians for the British take-over.

Excellent image of two recipients of the Africa Star and a well marked Jeep. Note the format of the 7 Armd Div sign as applied to a vehicle - very different from the "kangaroo with begging bowl" on black rectangle worn on BD at that time. The blackout driving lamp has been removed from the front wing and has replaced a headlight under the bonnet. In the bottom left corner is evidence of an interesting modification. It is said that when Jeeps met the Autobahns for the first time, they could be taken up to their maximum speed c 60 mph. The air flow under the front mudguards (or "wind beneath the wings") had the effect of lifting the front of the vehicle almost off the road with detrimental effect on the steering! So local REME welded some steel plate to fill the gap between the front of the mudguards and the top surface of the bumper. This plate can be seen at bottom left. Mike
