Badge Collecting periods

Hi Guys,

Jeff Cossum in his badge collecting books (as most of you already know) has categorised Australian badges into various periods eg 1900 to 12,
1930 to 42.

What I am considering doing is to attempt to add more granularity to these periods by finding out what exact dates a particular unit existed and
thus wore their hat badge.

For example, take the Australian Tank Corps hat badge from the 1930 to 42 period. The Australian Tank Corps was only formed in 1938 with the
raising of the 1st Light Tank Company. Thus in reality, they would only have worn that hat badge from 1938/39 to 1942.

A worthwhile exercise? If you all think so, I would appreciate assistance/information from you all in compiling this information.

The data is from Alfred Festberg's book on the Lineage of the Australian Army and indicates the formation and disbandment dates of each regiment.

The challenging part will be to try and find out when each regiment wore the hat badge that is mentioned in Jeff Cossum's 1930 to 1942 badge book. Between 1918 and 1944 many of these regiments went through numerous re-organisations which included title changes, numerical designator changes and linking and then de-linking with other regiments.

The 1930 to 42 militia period regiments are all grouped by state.

Quite confusing to say the least.

This is a start and hopefully others can update the infantry battalions :-)
