Formation Sign Latest Edition Published
The latest edition of the Journal of the Military Heraldry Society should be dropping onto members' doormats shortly.
It includes articles on Home Guard insignia from both its wartime and postwar phases, a detailed history of the British Troops Berlin formation sign, some unusual Canadian cloth badges from the First World War and some intriguing evidence on the crossed claymores badge shown here. Often attributed to No2 Special Service Battalion the article suggests that it could have originated with the Wartime Highland Regiment. The next issue due in July, which will commemorate 100 years of the Royal Tank Regiment, will be available to non-members through the Badge Forum. If you'd like to join UK membership is £17 (£18 if paid by Paypal). More about the Society at http://militaryheraldrysociety.com/ Jon |

The crossed claymores badge - is the backing of Hodden grey?

Leigh,
No, the backing is definitely purple - the worn example shown has faded. And the supporting evidence shown in the latest issue is definitely purple. Jon |
