Some time ago, I had a large quantity [about 250,000] British Navy badges, mostly trade types. There were some of these combined ops badges with them. I have to say, that this example looks very much like one of that batch.

Apart from some that I sent to a dealer in Japan, I sold them all to one dealer in the Bournemouth area who, I believe puts them out on e-bay.

My understanding is that the WWII era Combined OPs badges came in matched pairs. --- ie: the tommy gun & eagle facing forward or backwards

I am certain I have a set & will try to locate & post.

The thread embroidery on the WWII era badges is much thicker than this, what I think is a fairly modern example Ray.

Those numbers at the upper right of the badge are the {NATO?} stock numbers seen on the 60- 70's era rate badges

Ray, did you miss the genuine WW2 example that just appeared on eBay.co.uk? £26 was a cheap for that dealers usually ask 30 +

Here is a matched set of Combined Operations badges. Note how the eagle & tommy gun faces opposite directions. These are WWII period badges.

In the book "Badges & insignia of the British Armed Forces" {Naval section}(May,Carman, Tanner) the dates for this badge are given as 1942 -1946.

Perhaps the Combined Ops badges were worn again in the 50's or later? I cannot say that for certain tho.

I would like to disagree, I believe the ones shown in your post are replicas. The detail on the eagle is very poor.
Here's a set that I sold a while back. Note the black stitching on the eagle's body and neck.

The badge in the first post is the same as those sold by 'The Regalia Specialist', including the number!

The 'tombstone combined ops' badge is not currently in the MoD Vocab, if it is then I have missed it some how.

Well Luc even if I saw a close-up I wouldn't be sure and I think Peter explained why with his picture It also shows the matching pair. Thanks fellows.

Default Need help for Combined Operations Vet

I am not a medal or badge person and so I need some assistance, if at all possible.

One of our Legion Veterans (Milton, Ontario CANADA) was with the Combined Operations group that landed prior to the main D-Day assault. He has lost one of his medals/badges and he is desperately trying to locate a replacement, so his set will be complete to pass on to his grandson.

We went to the Toronto Military show today to see if we could find someone who knew about the badge/medal and one fellow said he believed it was the "Liberty Badge".

As Art has explained to me, it was given by the French Government to those who entered France via the Normandy beaches. Apparently the back of the medal (that is why I believe it is a medal not a badge) has an image of the 4 Normandy Beaches.

I searched the web and I can not find any mention of this medal. Perhaps the name is wrong? Does anyone have any ideas? I even tried the French Government site and could not find it.

Any assistance for a veteran in need would be appreciated!!

Richard

Default Combined Operations Formation Badges

hi Gentlemen,
Have done a bit of research on this specific formation badge. You may want to check the following guide I have posted on e-Bay. It is somewhat akin to the warning sign "ACHTUNG MINEN".
The URL is http://reviews.ebay.com/WWII-British...:-1:LISTINGS:3
Hope this may be of some assistance
Regards,
Jim
