Left badge appears to be sealed 07/12/1901 #5032 pattern as described here by Col W.W. Mahon

The cap star on the right looks to be a modern (1996-date) Firmin

Danny

I have not found anything substantial to date the many, minor variations of the rank & file star.

The raised central boss seems to have no particular significance for this pattern and appears in both the GM and anodised versions along with flatter examples.

This is very true John, only today I came across an example on eBay cast in Solid Silver of all things??
New examples are being produced, and with aged patina easily faked it is impossible to pin down 100% accurate dates without concrete provenance.

The chap selling the "Solid Silver" badges on eBay, IMO is a complete Richard 111.

Slightly off-topic I was interested to see the cutting above that mentioned "pay sergeants". I had thought that only the GG referred to colour sergeants thus.
