Pegasus Patches Worn By Cadets - The Proof !
Today I picked up two nice clean copies of :-
"Clothing Regulations, Pamphlet No13 - Scales of Clothing and Personal Equipment for Combined Cadet Force (Army Sections) and Army Cadet Force" The pamphlets are both dated 30th June 1966 and contain a wealth of detail relating to badges and insignia worn by CCF and ACF units at that time, most relates to qualification badges but a couple of entries caught my eye ! CCF Section Para 108 Regular or TA Formation Badge The formation badge of the parent unit will NOT be worn by cadet contingents [I]except[I] by those affiliated to a unit of the Airborne Forces when the Pegasus flash may be worn on each arm of the battledress blouse. The flash will be placed immediately below the "Combined Cadet Force" or school title. It will NOT be worn on the greatcoat. ACF Section Para 186 Members of the ACF affiliated to the Parachute Regiment may wear the "Pegasus" flash which may be obtained as detailed in para 52 (d) Para 52 (d) states (d) Supplies of the approved pattern "Pegasus" arm badges referred to in paras 108 and 186 may be obtained, on repayment, from the Brigade Ordnance Officer, 16th Independent Parachute Brigade, demands being submitted through the A.D.O.S of the district. Makes one wornder how many of those prized "peggies" in collections actually started life as cadet force badges ! Just goes to show ! PL PS if anyone wants one of the copies of pam 13, the spare once can be had for £10 including UK postage (overseas extra) |

Well better than that in 1964 I was a Cadet Colour Sgt in the Wellington College CCF which was affiliated to the Parachute Regiment. Along with a number of others I attended the TA P Company at Aldershot and subsequently was enlisted in 10 Para and completed the TA Parachute Course and qualified for TA Para wings.
My BD, long since gone, thus had Wellington College CCF titles with para wings below. We did not wear the Pegasus, but Simon Garthwaite, who was my Sgt when we run that Advanced Infantry Section of the unit, and I wore red berets with Wellington CCF cap badges. Simon was later KIA in Oman serving with 22 SAS, I've no idea how many of these courses took place. Eddie Last edited by Eddie Parks; 19-06-14 at 09:40 PM. |
