Thanks for the membership
Thanks for the membership and for those that organise / contribute to this forum; good job. I’m new to this and I’m particularly interested in Cap Badges of the Royal Engineers. I’ve attached images of my collection so far, but it looks like I’ve got quite a ways to go if you consider gilt, silver & gilt, brass, bronze, bi-metal, bakelite, staybright, militias, Gurkhas, etc!
Any help and advice is greatly received 😃 |

Welcome to the forum. Just a tip when showing your wares, show the backs as well. It helps to identify ( sometimes ) period of use and makers. Its also a good way of sporting fakes, not saying yours are.

Thanks Andy! Photos of the back now attached. To be honest, I suspect a couple of them are fake so hoping to learn to spot them (If I find they’re fake, I’ll mount them and put them in the unit bar 😉

I wouldn't worry if some are fake. We've all had some fakes at some time.

Welcome, I'm afraid your EviiiR badge is wrong, the voiding between the wreath and garter was only done on officers badges.
Is your Victorian badge white metal? Rgds, Thomas |

That’s a shame. That’s the one that I thought was the most legit! Yes, the Victorian one is a white metal. It was fairly cheap and I thought it was probably a restrike.

Welcome to the Forum and yes we all have copies even though we attemt to weed them out, only problem is its always someone else who spots them!
There are plenty of Engineers badges about so good luck locating them, all the best Billy |
