Armourer branch - post 1950 rate badges
With the reorganization of the Branch & Trade structure of the RCN in 1949, the Armourer rates adopted the logo of the wartime rate badge, with the addition of added letters below the logo to indicate the specialization to which the wearer belonged...
ie: AM = Armourer’s Mate, G = Gunnery, T = Torpedo, C= Control (Electrical & guidance systems), & no letter = Ordnance Artificer at PO & CPO level. Shown below are the rate badges for the Armourer branch: |

Armourer braanch - post 1950 rate badges
Shown below is a set of Gunnery Armourer CPO matched set of rate badges, for wear on the lapels of the tunic – note the reversal of the gun crossed over torpedo logo on the badges.
Later, in the mid 1950’s, the CPO rate badges were reduced in size & made up in matched pairs. An example of the smaller matched set is shown on the right. The badge set was cut in the middle for wear on the lapels of the CPO tunic. Bryan |
