I which case I might just take it with me when I go over to the UK later on this month and when I visit Tamworth, ask Dave to try and remove the old solder to see whats underneath. Will let you know.

I am driving up from my Daughters place (she lives in Bicester) to see him on Wed the 30th - should be arriving there (if I can avoid the bloody Brummy traffic) around 10:30..11:30. I plan on staying there for most of the day before driving back down that evening... David

I have to say that I have never seen an example like that before, not really one that I would rush to buy either, I am not a cavalry collector, but, when I collected cavalry as a boy, I just bought the basic text book examples of them.

I haven't seen one before but it feels right.
I didn't rush to buy it either but I thought it was worth looking at and it hardly broke the bank....

I just bought all those that I could find in the days when I actually collected cavalry, I have not looked for any for many years now and I am rather surprised at the prices now being asked for them.
Would not want to buy them all again!

I do object to paying for them as I got my first set free...along with Div. signs ....and a tank!
and there was free food, accommodation and travel!

Have to say.... I dont like it at all... not sure where it could have originated and its an example I havent seen before. Clearly as Spreadeagle has one its not alone out there. I have learned many things about badge collecting and one of them is.... Never discount anything unless you have photographic proof.
But... I still trust my gut and I would put my hat on it being a fake.

For sketchleykid,
Here are two I dug out this morning.
Both O/R's, nicely lugged, one more worn than the other. One has had re-inforcing pins fitted, the other hasn't. Both are from different dies or from different makers.
The one with its 2 additional pins on either side of the crown looks as if the crown either became detached or was at least cracked/starting to break etc.
One badge does look slightly larger than the other - they are, but the difference is only 0.5mm.

Hello David,
Superb example on the left, wonderful sharp strike and attention to detail, have not seen one like it for quite a few years now!
Regards Frank
