N.S. Siege Artillery Draft.....
Hi from NZ,
Though Canadian badges ,in general, are not my field, I do have a few in connection with some specific side-line groups. In this case Artillery . Thought I'd show it here, as I believe these are quite rare. N.S. Siege Artillery Draft..... from a friend ,who was given it by a Veteran of this unit, while attending a Master Gunners course in Canada. Has had the 3 lugs removed & replaced by a catch pin(now broken),for wear on a civvie's suit. Any info on this Unit ,will be appreciated. (have had some in the past, but more is always welcome!) Cheers ! Steve |

I remember reading in a Canadian badge catalogue that all these odd RCA badges were post war inventions. Comments!

The badge was given as a gift to my friend, in the 1980's, at a regimental dinner to mark the end of the Master Gunner's course he was on, I'm reliably informed.
The old gentleman was a guest of honour & was in his 90's then. My friend was told this was his draft badge from WW1 & worn by the old gentleman concerned on his suit jacket ,on remembrance days ,etc. He was told that there were very few in the draft, something like 7 or 8 ,but this seems an exceedingly small number, to me. Was hoping the Canadian experts could help more? I have more info on the course date & place, but cannot find it at present. Hope this helps ? Cheers ! Steve PS: is 2 piece construction ,with central capping piece over standard maple-leaf badge(with voided centre beneath) PPS: My thanks to 'Bill' on the MCN forum for previous info on this badge ! Hi what you have is one of the exceedingly rare badges of the CEF artillery series . The Nova SCOTIA Siege draft formed june5 1917 very small draft less than 100 men and officers and absorbed into the cfa weeks later yet where a badged unit. I have both an ORs and Officers badge yours is only the third I have seen.

Paul is correct on this badge being rare I have only seen two down this way and yours and Pauls examples make five. I am unlucky enough not to have one of these in my collection and would like to add them some day. Corps troops for the province are one area I am lacking in for Officer badges also and this one and the 36th battery I do not have a example.
Nice seeing your badge Thanks Stephen |
