Relic Battlefield Badges
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WW1-RELIC...MAAOSwe0taDBne
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WW1-RELIC...AAAOSwVtZaDBg6 Curious. Curious price as well. Obviously 'planted'. Anyone who has done a bit of 'detectoring' would agree? I'm not saying they've not come out of the ground, just not 'as found' in the photos. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WW1-RELIC....c100005.m2219 |

And would a Manc's Regt ORs collar badge be worn in WWI at Danzig Alley? Or lost in training area in the UK post war?

Manchester collar badge
The Manchester collar badge looks to me more like the top of a Lincolnshire Regt badge, did the Manchester Regt wear collar badges with the word "EGYPT" in old English script?

In any case if they are real is this not looting?

I’ve been to Mametz many times and found lots of battlefield debris ranging from live grenades to bullet tips etc., but a cap badge is not something I’d expect to find & perhaps more importantly in the context shown in the photo. Not impossible I suppose, but rather improbable I’d say.

Collar badges wouldn't have been worn by ORs at that time?

Did the Lincolnshire Regiment ever wear the coat of arms of the city of Manchester?

The third link is to an item purported to be a Manc's Regt collar (it looks more like a Linc's Regt cap badge minus it's scroll, not that I've bothered to study the image.
Hence my reference to collar badge. Last edited by leigh kitchen; 25-11-17 at 05:48 PM. Reason: I'd stuck an "R" in front of "Linc's"? |

Just noted the third link, yes a Lincolnshire Regiment badge, certainly nothing to do with the Manchester Regt, had only noticed and looked at the first and second link, sorry, but, why would you pay that, an example in good condition, could be had for less.
Are there not penalties under French law for taking battlefield relics? |

That's what I thought which is why I asked if this is not looting?

Well, many of us have done it, notwithstanding, there is very clearly a profound difference, at least, from a moral point of view, between those that go to a particular battlefield and take a single, usually a very lucky and scarce find, perhaps they may well have had a family member who fought and lost his life on the same and those who very deliberately look for and take anything and everything they can find, with the sole intention to sell.
