Kirkham Grammar School cadets.
Hello,
Can anyone confirm that this 20mm brass button was worn by the cadets at Kirkham Grammar School. It has the school crest of a windmill on a closed book on a torse above KGS. Backmark is Dowler Birmingham. Thanks, David.

Hello David
No help I'm afraid as your button is not illustrated in any of the articles I have on School Cadet/Officer Training Corps buttons. Lots of schools had buttons used by uniformed staff and/or pupils and whilst some may have been used by School Cadets/OTC not all were as quite a few units opted for a general pattern button of one form or another. Rawlings only shows a cloth title ( but an interesting one ) for the CCF. I would contact the school to see if they have an Archivist or anyone else who may be able to help.

Kirkham Grammar School only has a Cadet history going back 80yrs
I have read a bio by an old pupil who served with the 'Loyals' Cadets at the School from around 1949-1952, he later went on to do his national service in Malaysia with the Loyal Regt. I am sure by the late 70's early 80's they wore the QLR cap badge if my memory serves me right. Now the Duke of Lancs Cap Badge is worn by the Army contingent. The Windmill on the button is from the Schools Coat of Arms, I think it depicts the old Windmill on the Fylde coast in Lytham St Anne's which is a couple of clicks from the School. I think it may be a School uniform button rather than a Cadet associated item. Paul
