Default Essex Yeo KK1493 - in bronze

I picked up this badge a while ago and have not seen another since. I have one other of this pattern which was very clearly a GM badge that had been bronzed, but this one is an entirely different matter, of much higher quality manufacture, die cast, with blades as expected etc.

Has anyone else got one of these, or any photos of it being used..? In all my research I have never found any evidence of this badge being worn in bronze. For now it's in my 'unofficials' category.

Default EY K&K 1493

Michael,

I have two versions of large OSD with the 'ESSEX YEOMANRY' TITLE: one has a split pin fitting and the other has a flat top crown. I have been told both are 'duds', and have never found any authentication for them.
I also have another of the same size that has had the bottom scroll removed. I'm told this was a modification done by recruits joining 1/1 EY in France who had been issued the post-1916 economy version, but wanted to look more like the old lags who wore the earlier version still. Mine appears to be bronze so was it worn by an Officer or SNCO wanting to blend in?

Stephen.

Many thanks Stephen.

I had similar info on both items (and I suspect our source is one and the same!)

I have examples of both KK1492 and KK1493 which are GM badges that have been bronzed, but the one in my OP is still the only die cast example I have come across. I shall leave it in the unofficial bucket unless something definitive turns up.
