Default Norfolk Yeo

The insignia worn by the KORR Norfolk Yeo is VERY complicated.
Officers wore bullion cyphers on their coloured cap and coloured FS caps for GvR, EviiR and GviR.
They wore the same large GviR GM cap badge as OR on blue and khaki SD caps.
During WW1 officers appear to have worn the reduced size OSD bronze GvR badge. A reduced size GM GvR badge was worn as a Full Dress & mess dress collar badge.
A GM EviiR collar badge was worn on blues by SNCOs.

I have yet to see GviR worn on shoulder chains, but I have seen just GM KORR worn on them. I've also seen the GvR without KC worn on Full Dress shoulder chains with a separate KC, which was probably a rank badge. The GvR badges I've seen in the museum were all lugged.

A large EviiR GM badge was worn on the Full Dress helmet. The same badge was worn as collar badge on the blue tunic by officers and Other Ranks.

The pouch badge was a very different design altogether.

It appears the Yeomanry didn't always maintain the same dress standard, and it was acceptable to keep in use older badges, and styles of blue, and mess dress. The EviiR collar badges were still worn on mess dress by older NCO into the early 1950's.

I have no evidence yet that the RA gun cap badge was worn by this regiment.

One day I'll collate all my information and photos and work out what was worn when, but don't hold your breath.

Stephen.

RA gun badges were worn by SNCOS above their rank chevrons upto and during Ww2.The Association has published photos online of them.

They also wore RA grenade collars and s/ts.

See 1920s gun crew in photo 76.

I have expanded the picture as large as I can and the cap badges appear to be the large GVR Norfolk ones.

The regt was also made up of the Suffolk Bty who also wore the Loyal Suffolk Hussars Yeomanry cap badge with RA badges on their tunics: http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...5&d=1464280139

Cool Norfolk Yeomanry

I have paid a visit to my collection and dug out the Norfolk Yeomanry board, on there is a badge I bought way back in 1964 from a gentleman who was the curator of a museum, there is virtually no difference to the one I put on the forum, colour, loops etc.

I also found I had one with a slider that was diecast that I'd forgotten about.

As to whether the badge I put on the forum is an original or a true restrike from original dies it's difficult to say. Norfolk Regt Man is probably correct in saying you can't find a badly made fake . . !

Cool Curator

Sorry, this museum was not the Norfolk Yeo, but Northumberland Fusiliers, curator, G.N. Farrier, who was according to Hugh King known as "Northern Farrier".

I never met the man, but bought many badges from him, I believe there was someone of the same name who lived in the south . . !

I would be interested if any other collectors bought badges from him and remember his handwritten lists in pencil which had to be returned with the order and payment.
