Royal Scots Fusiliers Hat Badge WW1
Hello all,
I’ve just received a Royal Scots Fusiliers hat badge WW1. Being new to this I don’t know the difference between WW1 & WW2 always assuming the badge is genuine. My Grandfather served in the Royal Scots Fusiliers in WW1 so if there is a difference obviously WW1 is the go. I would welcome any comments or direction on this. Thanks (in anticipation) Mowatt |

RSF WWI & WWII
The Royal Scots Fusiliers wore the same badge from 1902 until 1953 when the crown changed to St. Edwards crown, more commonly called a Queens crown. Your badge could have been worn at anytime between these dates, I hope this is of some help.

Thanks Rob, I thought that might be the case but wanted some experienced 'hand' to confirm. From what I've seen the badge itself looks OK but again I don't have experience of fakes.
Thanks again Mowatt |

The changeover was much later than 1953 as the Bn were still wearing k/c badges in 1958 as shown by contempory publications.

Changeovers
Yes Alan, I'm sure that changes did not take place over night, I only put these dates as a guide to what could have been worn, I would not mind betting that some old sweats went to France in 1914 wearing QVC glengarry badges that they had polished for many a year.

Thanks to both of you. Nobody has jumped up to expose the badge as a fake so I assume it's OK
Also being new what's a 'k/c' badge? Is there anywhere on the forum that shows a list of abbreviations? Mowatt. |

The K/C (Kings Crown) is as shown on your badge. Previously it was QVC (Queen Victoria Crown) which is similar but flatter than the current Q/C (Queens or St Edward Crown) associated with Elizabeth II
