In response to my email, the auctioneer has withdrawn the item from the sale.

I must commend their prompt action.

Enjoy the hobby, Keith

It is my considered opinion that we "senior"* collectors have an obligation to other, less well informed, collectors.

Our obligation is to warn about fakes, offer advice, to try and reduce the sale of fakes wherever possible, and to help others enjoy the hobby.

*I use the term Senior not that I regard myself in any higher esteem than other human beings, it just reflects my age and experience in my chosen collecting field.

Enjoy the hobby, Keith

Cool LRDG bush hats

Keith,
I think it is both commendable by the auctioneer for with withdrawing this item and for you pointing it out to them and members of the forum.

Did the LRDG ever wear bush hats?

From photos I have seen, all sorts of headwear, but never bush hats.

Rob

I would encourage all collectors to point out the fakes to auctioneers, starve the faker of their easy profit, and help to clean-up our hobby.

Bush hats were not an item of headdress seen worn by the LRDG. But, no doubt, now I have made the statement somebody will post an image of one being worn! I have seen mis-shaped NZ lemon squeezer, resembling a Stetson, being worn.
However there were former soldiers of the Middle East Commando (who did wear Bush hats) in the LRDG so it is possible this headdress was worn by them?

Enjoy the hobby, Keith

Yes Keith i'm with you there. I when i can, try and put eBay sellers right. I to think its important, i have loads of fakes from when i started collecting. To my annoyance. But have and are still learning from members of this fine Forum.
