Just a brief update everyone

After Gumroad flatly refused to accept PayPal for ages, they've just done a 180 degree turn (or is that 3200 Mil turn They now accept PayPal. I've tried it and it seems to work fine.

I hope this helps anyone who had trouble with Gumroad previously.

Regards

Mark

Hello All,

For those of you looking for a hard copy of Vol 1... there's a sample of what the hard copy page entry/format will look like. It's hosted at the web blog we set up for the book at : http://charliebravobooks.com/

Although it's just a 4 page pdf, the file size apparently exceeds what can be uploaded here So I hope the web link will do (for now).

When you read that sample, your feedback (via posts on here, or on the book's blog page), will be appreciated.

Happy collecting and researching!
Mark

Hi All,

The printers proofs for the hard copy version of Vol 1 of our reference work have recently arrived.

People asked for hard copies (and we listened).

The details of the book's layout, can be seen at our book blog at charliebravobooks.com.

http://charliebravobooks.com/2015/10...1-have-arrived

This is a link to an AV intro to the "Concise" edition as well.

We hope you will find the new hard copy edition to be useful in your collecting and/or research of Australian Army insignia.

Regards

Mark

Got my hard copy of this book last week and am well pleased with the result. It strikes a nice balance in enabling the collector to know what was about during which period without information overload.

Possibly because the Army in the sense of its Corps structure has undergone little change since WW2, or even prior, we tend to forget that it is 30 years since Jeff published his books to include the QC era, and 50 years since Festberg started things off. We needed this update and I'm looking forward to the next volume, be it ebook or real book.

Thanks very much for the feedback Keith... it's greatly appreciated.

I'm also prepared for feedback on what people thought could be improved in either the eBook version or the shorter hard copy version? There was one slip up with the image for OTU (CB 107), which shows an irrelevant 3 Training Battalion rocker or/cloth title. That was a pre-press quality checking 'slip up' on our part (the image was marked for replacement with the rocker removed), but was not actioned. Nevertheless, we will have made other and more egregious errors elsewhere in one or both forms of the book... so Forum Members can '...take one pace forward' and list the gaff's they've found. Arthur and I are big and ugly enough to benefit from that

Finally, Mick emailed me (about a fortnight ago), saying that he'd missed an email about a free update to the eBook edition of Volume one. I'm going to review the GumRoad hosting of the electronic download today and see what I can do to forward the update copies to anyone who may have missed out? If you've bought a copy of the eBook and you are not already using the slightly expanded 2nd Edition of it, then please let me know and I'll add you to the list of people I need to email a copy to individually.

You can post requests for the 2nd Edition here, or directly to me on corcoran@bigpond.net.au or via charliebravobooks.com, whatever each of you prefer?

Happy New Year everyone!

OK All,

Here's a couple of quick points on Vol 1 (Vol 2 will be discussed in a separate post).

Over the weekend, I reviewed our book offering on GumRoad and I shut down the ability to order the hard copy from there, since almost all hard copy sales are coming from Gun Shows/Dealers and from eBay. I think that's simply because people trust both of those channels more readily (and ID theft is much less likely because cash is used at one and PayPal can be used at the other).

So Gumroad (and to a lesser extent Paddle), will be left to provide only the eBook Edition of Vol 1 and the 30 page sample material of both Editions of course. So that should torture fewer people... who only want the hard copy version in any event.

Next, to publicly answer Mick's private query to me about existing eBook users getting the free 2nd edition update... GumRoad tells me how many people got the update notice and how many clicked on it to get the down load... BUT not which eBook purchaser did what. Sigh. Nevertheless, I can see about 2 thirds of buyers got the update... and about a remaining 1/3rd did not. As such, I'll need to make another mailing list on Gumroad and send the download link to those people who missed out for some (or any) reason. I don't want to simply use the same distribution list again... because 60percent of the eBook owners will be ticked off, if we send them the same update twice.

Therefore, Mick is obviously the first of the people to be placed on the next 2nd Edition download list... are there any more of you in the same boat?

Happy New Year

Mark

Next: Re Vol 2

On the question about the release date for Vol 2... I have learned my lesson about predicting finish dates for our writing projects. We effectively wrote Vol 1 twice... first the 615 page 'encyclopedic' eBook Edition and then the much more printable 236 page hard copy. So, I obviously can't be trusted to project finish dates. You heard it here first

Nevertheless, I am able to say that the work on Vol 2 is about 80 percent complete at present and I can say that it will be out this year. I can also tell you that we will release the shorter hard copy version first... so you will all have a complete set of hard copy reference works at that point (without us holding back until all the 'known' variations have been completed for the eBook edition of Vol2). In other words, we are writing the two editions of Vol2, in the opposite order that we wrote Vol1. It seems bleeding obvious now... but there you have it . So, who said old dogs can't learn new tricks :P

Conclusion

By the time first Queensland Gun Show is run at Ipswich on 27 and 28 Feb... Arthur and I should have a better idea of when we think we can knock over the remaining work on the hard copy Ed of Vol 2. I will post a more precise release date for you all then. I hope this much information is of use to you all?

Remember, if you have any feedback we'd be happy to hear from you all and this discussion board is a good place for that discussion to occur.

Finally, if we were to put up some sample pages of Vol 2 on (say) DropBox, with links posted here and/or on charliebravobooks.com etc etc, will that be something you'd be interested in (or not)?

Regards and Happy New Year!
BTW: Thanks to all of you who have purchased one version of Vol 1 or the other (and also to many of you, who own copies of both), your support for our research work and our niche market publishing effort, IS greatly appreciated. I'm not pissing in any pockets here... if it wasn't for those of you who buy militaria and associated reference books, we would simply have a well-documented 'reference collection' that we use (and documentation for a few items in a few other people's collection too)... all of which which only ever be read by the 'premium calculation clerks' at various insurers

Default The free eBook update for Vol 1

Hi All!

I've just send a second email link to a free update of our eBook edition of Volume 1, to everyone Gumroad has recorded as having bought the eBook from there. That's been done a second time, because we've had emails (via charliebravobooks.com), from several people saying that they haven't yet received the original update link which we mentioned on the book's blog site. So, hopefully a repeat distribution of the email from Gumroad, will send everyone an update link this time.

Everyone who purchased the Vol 1 eBook through Gumroad should be on the distribution list for that email. If you purchased your copy from Paddle instead, just let me know on this discussion board and we'll see how we can repeat an update process through their system.

Finally, please post some feedback here and let me know how the emailed link to the eBook update works for each of you? Especially if you expect to get the email with the update link and it doesn't appear in your email system.

Regards and happy collecting everyone!

Mark

Default Happy New Year All!

Happy New Year everyone! Here is a brief 'look see' at progress on the manuscript of Volume 2. As many of you here on this forum would be aware, Volume 1 in the series, covered insignia for Corps and Schools, while this next volume does its best to cover insignia for all Units and Regiments of the Australian Army.

A direct link to the pdf downloadable can be found at:

https://charliebravobooks.com/2016/1...and-regiments/

Even the 5 pages of pdf extract were too big to post here directly... I probably should have exported the In Design file to a low res pdf... but then the images wouls probably have suffered a fair bit... so the link's probably the best option for the moment?

Any way, we hope you enjoy the extract of the new Volume (which will undergo its final pre-press work in January 2017). As always, your feedback is welcome (either here, or via facebook posts, private messages or via a blog post on charliebravobooks.com

A Happy and Healthy New Year to all!
