I have no doubt its an original period badge, however I dont believe it started life looking as it did. It may have been a silver cap badge with blades or it may be a silvered OSD cap badge or even a collar badge. I think post war, the fittings have been removed and a commercially available brooch pin fitted to convert it into a sweetheart. It may have been too floppy on the clothing, falling forward etc, and a bent top pin then fitted to secure it to the breast/lapel. Just a theory. best wisihes
