Kings Liverpool Militia (?) helmet DNW May lot 681
There are a couple of interesting Kings Liverpool home service pattern helmets in the DNW May auction.
I am not sure if this one is what they describe is as: https://www.dnw.co.uk/auctions/catal...13402&search=1 I think the helmet plate ( which looks silver and gilt to me ) is the last regular officers pattern ( 1911-1914 ) and not a militia item and that the helmet with all silver fittings is a Volunteer or Territorial item. Interesting to hear if other members have opinions. P.B.

Peter,
A very knowledgable collector once told me that the Helmet Furniture colour should always match the colour of the Helmet plate Star. In this case there is clearly a mis-match. The plate doesnt belong on the helmet. I have bought a couple of helmets from DNW that have come from this huge overseas collection and can say he must have an outstanding collection, but probably hoovered up absolutely everything without much consideration to whether the plate had always been on the helmet. I put that in unusually delicate terms for me! regards

Yes, I agree - a regular 1911 Pattern officer's HP on a VBn or TF Bn officer's helmet. Nice items but they do not go together. Apart from making helmets, Hobson also made HPs and badges.
