Default My small chaplain collection

I set up military history display in my area and one special display I have set up in small parts is a military chaplain / religion in the military display. While most of my collection covers American military chaplains over the years I have been picking up chaplain insignia from other countries. This is my small collection of British and commonwealth insignia. The first photo shows the insignia and buttons salvaged from a very badly moth eaten Korean War chaplain uniform (unnamed) The rest is random insignia I have found.

Thank you for sharing,

I have always thought that this would be a well worth and fascinating area to collect too.

Well done!

Cheers, Roy.

Nice collection, can you post a close up of the first badge on the lower left, it might not be RAChD badge, but some fraternity or order badge. See fellow member Luc's album for examples.

The center and oak and laurel wreath don't look gilt and the star of David seems enamelled, IMO not traits of an official jewish Chaplains badge.

Thomas, you're right of course, so probably not British Army. The Commonwealth armies had their own interpretations of the badge so possibly one of those.

Default close ups of the Jewish Badge

As requested here are some close ups of the Jewish Badge. I got this from my friend some years ago with two of the other badges shown. He was a long time collector of foreign uniforms and insignia including British and Commonwealth items

Not a badge worn by the British RAChD.

Here are some I had on a board haven't had any reason to doubt them but now free from board the rear on the Jewish Chaplain badges are iffy! To say the least the British Chaplains badge am well happy with - Brass though photos may make it look Silver!

Originally posted so you could compare and the fact This Enamelled version I have is only the central portion!

Default Two questions

Hi,, some interesting items here. I have a couple of Chaplain badges that no one appears to have seen before, will try to find some scans and attach them tomorrow.
My questions are: 1. I have an oxidised collar badge with voids like the one illustrated but with no crown. Why? Never seen a voided cap badge.
2. I also have a normal design Christian Chap cap badge but in WM not bronze or oxidised. I also saw a genuine one a few years ago in Stg Sil. Why and when were they worn in WM?
