Canadian Grenadier Guards
A request. If you have a printed Canadian Grenadier Guards shoulder title in your accumulation, could you please check the backing material. Is it black or another (perhaps red) colour? (Posting in both infantry and armoured threads.)

Thanks for the replies. From what I have been able to gather, the red backing was used on the first run of the CGG titles. These were printed on No 2 Cotton Drill material. The later, black backed pattern were printed on No 2 Satin Drill.

I might be a little late to the party but the backing on mine is black and as you say Bill the construction looks later war weave.

Black, Bill -- but what is the difference between the two weaves?

Thanks lettman.
The No 2 Cotton Drill has a coarser rib, and is a heavier weight material.

OK. On that basis, I feel that my title might be the coarser, heavier weave, which might contradict your theory. But I'd need to see a comparison between the two types side by side to say for sure.
