Hello All,

Would greatly appreciate any feedback as regards thoughts on authenticity for this one.

G'day Mark

This badge has been discussed many time here on the forum and if you do a search you should find all the info that you need.

I don't claim to be an expert on the Nellies however my understanding is to look for the following features
1 the separation between the tusks.
2 the separation between the elephants tail and butt.
3 the placement of the lugs as far to each end, like yours.

Using the above as a guide I'd say you have a good one, however others may differ.

It is correct to the period. This badge is actually one of the more common Victorian era cavalry badges. I can only speculate that this is partly because of the attractiveness of the design as a keepsake saw more being collected.
