unknown US patch
This patch was among my hoarded US stuff so I pesume it is American. A positive i.d. is most welcome

At first glance it looks like a major's rank badge, but now I'm not so sure as a major's badge has seven petals (for want of a better word).

I believe this to be a civilian kids patch design. There is no connotation to a military unit in those colours or design and looks fairly modern.

Everything's possible. Will remove from among the known authentic patches for now.
Thanks GTB |

Hi Don,
57mm between horizontal lobes. Khaki colouring reminiscent of WW1 insignia but I have an open mind here. GTB |

Hi. My best guess given the colors and size is that is a cloth subdued major’s rank insignia. These were worn on the collar, soft hat, and lapels of the field jacket. If I can find mine I will compare them. If the rest of your hoard is from about the last 50 years, showing my age here, and if some is subdued, I would say that is circumstantial evidence. Hope this has been of some help. Don

Don,
Apart from a possible size discrepancy I believe the US Major's insignia differs both in number of 'lobes' as well as having a stem GTB |

I expect it will blizzard latter today. I found my hat with the major’s insignia. My best guess is now downgraded to a guess. You’are right about the lobes. 7. Also the color isn’t right. It also looks like yours is larger. Too large I’m afraid. Mine is embroidered on green cloth. Yours looks like a piece of cloth with needlework. I wouldn’t say no way, but not very likely. Back to square 1. I must now go check on my snowblower. I trust yours is ready. Don
