Default Wartime British Beret Basque maroon beret question

Can someone confirm that British Beret Basque ltd made maroon berets in 1943? I have seen contracts for 1953, 1959, 1961 etc but not from WW2.

Also can it be confirmed that the leather sweatband overlapped the cotton liner, rather than the normally seen liner overlapping the sweatband? That would be a rather unique feature not seen on any wartime beret known to me, maroon or any other colour.

Hello,
"British Airborne headdress" by Daniel Fisher & Olivier Lock(Military Mode publishing) feature (P 22/23) a British Beret Basque LDT maroon beret dated 1944, with letter "M" WD stamp.
Hope this helps.
Regards

Thanks Normandie. Can it be confirmed that they manufactured maroon berets in 1943 as well?

Hmm, again the cotton overlaps the leather sweatband.

There is one for sale from an experienced SFdealer (and fellow member) that was sold on ebay recently:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/232605834729?
On this example the leather overlaps the cotton liner. It's something I don't understand.

Luc,

Thank you for the link.

All I will say is that I am not a fan of that para beret.

I don't have access to a few things I'd like to photograph and post at this time. Hopefully soon.

Cheers

Hello,
In my opinion, these berets are totally spurious. See the post I submitted on the alleged Free French one http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...649#post428649
I'm sorry to hear that the vendor is a member of this forum.
