Lambourne marked badges
From what has been contributed to this thread it seems that Lambourne made other items apart from cap badges, Griff's cufflinks are a good example.
I have heard that they also made swagger stick tops with Regimental devices on them, as to whether these were maker marked I have no idea, maybe someone who collects swagger sticks could help. As to whether the underscored "O" is correct or not seems yet to be resolved, maybe a quirk of the company. Thanks for your inputs. Rob |

Can't remember where I found this but it might be of interest:
Lambournes of Empire Works, Great Charles Street, Birmingham 1868 The company was founded by Barrett Lambourne, to produce Spats, Rigid Braces, Buttons and Studs for the gentry, with premises in Great Charles Street, Birmingham. 1922 British Industries Fair Advert for Hosiers' Jewellery and Sundries - Sock Suspenders, Garters, Armlets, Brace Ends, Tie Frames, Studs, Links, Tie Pins, Collar Pins, Advertising Novelties, Stamped and Pressed Metal Smallwares. (Stand No. E.40) [1] In 1932 the company moved to the Great Hampton Works in Great Hampton Row, Birmingham. Over the next few years the range of products were increased to include Cuff Links, Collar Studs, Tie Slides, Armbands, Belts, Braces, Garters, Sock Suspenders and Leather Goods. The company expanded to include additional premises in Leominster but continued to be owned and run by the Lambourne family. 1981 The Great Hampton Works were sold to become part of the Arnold Wills Group. Lambournes
Thomas,
Interestingly military badges and shoulder titles do not appear on this list of products, whilst we as collectors have long noted that their products were not of the best quality, I would have thought that they may well have included them. Rob |

Interesting. I am (dubiously) looking at a 1939 pattern badge purportedly made by Lambourne. Rob notes that they do not appear from 1932, though I don't think the quality of 1st WW Lambourne badges is too bad ! Following Thomas's informative post, do we have a finite cut off date for the production of military (cap) badges by Lambourne !? Are there any surviving archives ??

Rather than start a new thread, I thought I would bung this on the end of this one.
Considering that they are notorious for the lack of them, this is the first time I have come across a Lambourne made badge with "blow holes"... Other than Essex, has anyone got any other examples with holes? Last edited by Nozzer; 17-02-18 at 10:20 PM. |

Yes, I've learned a bit about Lambourne's over the years.
Firstly, I now know that L did nor produice / mark any (8th Irish Bn Kings) badge from 1939 because the National Archives do not have them in their list of 1939-46 lists ! although I know about regular BM badges appearing with LAMBOURNE’S / BIRMINGHAM and withLAMBOURNE & Co / BIRMINGHAM - I now know that there is a KLR 5th Bn with LAMBOURNE’S / BIRMINGHAM - which I'm still kicking myself for not biodding more !!!!!! What I don't yet know is whether there is a LAMBOURNE’S / BIRMINGHAM version for te 6th (Rifle) Bn KLR ! ???? That said, I'm still in the dark as to when L went out of busines - I'd apreciate anyone near Cardiff (Comp Ho) finding out ! HNY ! |

To add to the list of Lambourne badges that I have and haven't been mentioned;
4th, 5th & 6th Suffolk Regt, TF Royal Berkshire Regiment Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry Loyal North Lancashire Regiment West Kent Yeomanry/ Kent Cyclists Cheshire Yeomanry (Earl of Chesters) Shropshire Yeomanry King's Shropshire Light Infantry Hertfordshire Regiment (Although this one is unmarked, I have been able to identify it as a Lambourne and I am looking for a marked example) A white metal Royal Scots (maker marked plate) I think that is it for now, but I am keen to hear of other examples that you might have in your collections.
