Default unknown Polish? Italian made badge

Hi Gents,
Would appreciate if anybody can I.D this badge for me. It has a locking disc on the reverse ( not shown) with the makers name of S.A Picchiani & Barlacchi Firenze.

The scroll says Tobruk Cassino Ancona

Hello,
It looks like a copy of prototype badge of Polish Carphatian Lancers Regiment (Pulk Ulanow Karpackich) - first pattern - not accepted.
The unit took a part in North African campaigne (Tobruk, etc). Later became a part of Polish 2nd Corps and fought in Italy.

Thanks very much. What is the expansion of UK on the Eighth Army shield in the centre of the badge? Ulanow Karpackich? Mike
