Default Early Edwardian Grenadier Guard button

Good evening

Interesting button as it appears to have a slightly different crown to the normal kings crown. Is this early Edward vll?

Regards

Martyn

Queen Elizabeth II or Queen Elizabeth I if you are a Scot.

Or "II", the K Ed VII cypher reversed & intertwined is a far more elegant design than the QE II I feel, the QE II is so blunt & squared off.

There's no 'VII' on an Edward VII Grenadier Guards button either. It is the cypher alone which makes the difference (plus the crown with ERII (or ERI), of course).

On Grenadier Guards buttons the cyphers of Edward VII, Edward VIII and Elizabeth II are all 'ER', just three very different styles. Same with George V and George VI, different styles of 'GR', no numbers.

Royal Engineers buttons and others use a Royal Cypher and appropriate number - ERVII, GVR, EVIIIR and so on.

Quite agree but I daresay at the time it was thought to be very modern and 'New Elizabethan'!

I wonder what they will come up with for Charles III (although I have read somewhere that he might choose to be George VII!) and/or William V (although there again he may choose something different!).

Yes, I messed up the reply first time round as I thought they were the same button, just different views. I added a sentence to the original reply.

You may have had too much cider but I think I haven't had enough sleep!

Ok thanks anyway for the answer. I often combine the two: too much cider and not enough sleep. Do you know anything about my naval button that I put on another thread?

Many thanks

Martyn
