Default Real or Fake - QEII Para badge

Morning all,

This badge came with the Para GSM NI I recently purchased. Medals being my thing, I have no idea if it's genuine or a restrike. I'm thinking restrike as all the other QEII Para badges I've seen don't have a 'filled' in Crown (hope that makes sense).

If someone would be kind enough to let me know their thoughts, it would be most appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

John.

I don't believe that it is an issued item however it's quite common for a soldier to buy a w/m badge to replace the issued a/a one.

That is a very hard question to answer, there were certainly badges made for and actually issued to rank and file of this regiment, with the "filled" in crown you mention, but, they were rather different, in short, if your badge was worn by a serving member of the regiment, it is, in effect, an original badge, certainly by my own definition, at least.

Thanks for the reply Frank. Thinking it wasn't an original, I was going to sell it on but taking into account what you've said, I think it's the right thing to keep them together.

It does actually look well worn so you never know, it may have been worn by the medal recipient.

Regards,

John.

Hi John,

It looks like you have had some good comments. I can't say I can add much more. However I seem to recall my issue badge (mid 80's) was white metal and not a/a. As to it being voided or not, I just don't recall.

Cheerio,

Roy
