Default Bydand Silver Pin

Picked this one up awhile back.
Not sure about the specifics of sweethearts and Officers collars.
Badge is nicely marked Silver & J.A. Smith Aberdeen.

Kinda looking for clarification of type of badge and maybe an era?
Thanx!

Is it A & J Smith? Alexander and John Smith of Aberdeen. They, I believe, were registered with the Edinburgh Assay Office in the 1860s and we're still going in the 1960s. (According to advertisements in the Aberdeen press). So unfortunately a long time frame. Churchill has a similar badge listed under "other badges" for the Gordon's. The one similar to yours (fig.1723) he states as bronze and has longer antlers - is yours broken? I suspect yours is a sweetheart badge. Broach unlikely to be collar or sporran.

Had a bit closer look at the company and the consensus seems to be that they ceased to trade in the early 1930s, not the 1960s - though I have no definitive evidence to support this. This reduces the time frame considerably.
