Default Gibraltar Regiment A/A subdued cap badge (NEW FIND)?

Hi Gents,
Found this Royal Gibraltar Regiment badge today, it is in anodised aluminium and is factory subdued in brown! The badge is made by the London Badge & Button Co and was with a small collection of other R.Gib Regt pieces.
Don't know if any other members have any info on this item or whether it was authorised for issue or is an item from the P.R.I?
Regards
Colin

All Ranks badge (8455-99-178-5076) for wear on the beret with a backing of the Regimental ribbon, circa (memory gone).

Thanks Marc,
Is this the NSN for the silver & gold a/a badge or the subdued item? or do they both have the same NSN?.
Thanks
Colin

The NSN is for the metal bronze badge, more or less at the same time a burnished dead gilt and silver badge was introduced for wear in the Cap, by All Ranks. Collar badges were also changed to the same material with clutch and pin fastening.

Badge shown on the backing ribbon.

Many thanks Marc,
I must admit I was surprised to find this badge in a/a as the badges I have seen have been the new modern type of bronzed metal worn nowadays.
Thanks for your help.

Sorry for the confusion, but, my badge is bronzed metal not aa. So back to the top again.

Have to get a Royal Gibraltar Regiment specialist in and not rely on the MoD documents etc.

On 29 April 2006 a significant change in the Regiment’s insignia took place when the old dark blue berets of the Artillery were replaced with khaki Infantry berets. The cap badge became deep bronze in colour and was backed by a ‘flash’ in the Regiment’s colours – the scarlet of Gibraltar’s Infantry protecting the limestone grey of the Rock.

From the Regiments website.

Ok Marc
We can assume this badge was manufactured somewhere circa 2006 for the newly named Royal Gibraltar Regiment.
Over to a Gibraltar specialist or Hagwalther ( Chris) for maybe a definitive answer.
Many Thanks
Colin

Colin, this is a new one on me and I think that it should be included in my R.G.R. collection....

Nice one Jerry!
It's staying with me for now . although I have noticed that Minden Militaria has had one of these for sale in the past - so they are out there.

Colin,
Hi mate, nice unusual find! Presumably the brown colour is to mirror the later bronzed badge that followed the regular silver and gold AA badge we know.

The only similar colour I have is a brown/bronze Parachute Regt cap badge in AA - clearly a peculiar factory error though.

Regards all

Bess

Hi Bess,
I'm hoping this may have been the 1st issue badge to the newly named R. Gibraltar Regiment whilst waiting for the better quality bronzed badge to be issued?
Or possibly the brown/bronze coloured A/A one may have been rejected by the Clothing Dept before the new Regiment was formed?
Regards
Colin

Hi Colin,

Been away.

The modern 'New Metal' Gibraltar pieces were added to the inventory on the 5th Sept 2007 which is manu years after the latest date that I could find for a new A/A item.

No idea why this dark version exists in A/A - never found any info on it when researching A/A cap badges I'm afraid.

Regards,

Chris

Ok Thanks Chris,
Back in 2005/6 it's not beyond the realms of possibility that this badge may have been made in a/a for the R.G.R. After all, London Badge & Button Co would not have had to make a new die just simply change the colour of the badge in the electro plating process.
As Marc says we will have to find the Royal Gibraltar Regiment Specialist or someone who worked in their QM's Department or P.R.I shop a few years back!
Cheers
Colin
