Default Berkshire Yeomanry but what was the badge used for?

I picked this up today. I know what unit it is for, but I am less sure of it's use. It is WM and heavy cast. Can anyone help?

Cheers,

Gar

Its the "copied" center piece to a Helmet star..... the original being gilding metal. Unless it was copied from the officers and that would have a bi-metal center piece.

Andrew, many thanks for your time in researching this.

Griff, I'm not sure you can speculate that it is a copy unless you know for definite it is one!

In the context that its a cast badge.... and copied from a helmet plate original.

You can see another here (just...through the overlay) http://www.thewardrobe.org.uk/resear...n/detail/12730

Suggest 1900 and therefore a possible slouch hat badge?

Griff,

Andrew has kindly identified it as an OR badge for the FSC from 1890's to 1902. He has a photo of off-duty OR's at Churn camp wearing the badge (with cup of tea in hand)
