When I worked in South Kensington I lived in Bayswater, crossing Kensington Gardens twice a day to and from work. One afternoon, on the way home, I noticed that they had removed one of the paths which led from the “Physical Energy” statue to the Round Pond, replacing it with one on a slightly different alignment. In no hurry, and in the finest traditions of M R James hapless academics, I explored the new path keeping an eye on the freshly turned soils along the edges. I was pleasantly surprised to find this curved piece of white pottery presumably from a tea cup, bearing the NAAFI crest, in the up-cast (I made a note of the date which I cannot find, but mid to late 1990s). It is shown approx. twice its actual size.
Another collector once offered to swap for it but I’m glad I declined. Anyway, hope it is of interest.

Graham

Dave.
I wonder how this one ended up in a rubbish dump in south Wales, not military but an unusual one to see.
