Default City of Westmount Cap Badge

Hi guys

Here's another one I would like to get your opinions on. Its a cap badge to the City of Westmount. Two piece design, blackened copper, with lugs as well as a plate on the reverse that reads "MADE IN ENGLAND".

best regards,

Al R

If that's Westmount, Quebec, part of Montreal, then it could be a police badge.

Hi David

Yes it is a police badge, but if for Westmount Quebec, I wonder why the MADE IN ENGLAND plate on the reverse (?).

The other badge I posted was for City of Ottawa Police, so it could be for Police, Westmount Quebec.

thanks, Al

Quite simple. Its got a "Made in England" plate on the back because it was made in England. Lots of Canadian badges were made in England.

Dave.

The badge is made with the generic maple leaf used for many police forces. Usually the overlay was a beaver on a torse or log. Municipalities could buy unique badges for their jurisdiction and often used parts of the municipal crest as the motif. With that Made in England plate, the badge is likely a Gaunt example.
