Default Para wings of the world. Which book?

Could one of our para wings gurus please direct me to the best book on modern para wings of the world, or to be more specific the Middle East. Some of the tiny countries there seem to have more patterns of badge that they have soldiers!

Eddie, the only books I know of are Bragg and Turners two volumes. There has not been an update in many years and it is somewhat dated. Chute and dagger member publications would probably be your best bet. I believe they are still around as a collector association.

I fully agree with Eddie. When I collected World wide wings the 2 Bragg & Turner Books were my bibles. I then joinedChute & Dagger and spent many years collecting newsletters and attending AGMs (then I got married had kids and moved to Bristol). I even got my books signed.
There have been some specialist books published on specific subjects such as: Canadian airborne, German airborne, US Special Forces, US Para ovals, British DZ flashes and the like, but they can be hard to find and/or expensive.

Ian H

Concur. Other than the B & T books there is limited other material on the subject.

Agree with the others. I have sometimes found that the two B&T volumes contradict themselves, and are not always accurate. Other than Ken Joyce's book on Canadian Airborne stuff I don't know of any others. Maybe it should be another Forum project?

Eddie, Good advice already provided by others above. I would just add that I used the first Bragg and Turner book as my basic reference when I started collecting para qualification badges in the early 1980's. For me, it was a good basis for just organizing my search. My copy is covered in notes that I added over the years. The Chute and Dagger quarterly magazines are a great supplementary source of information. Like the B&T books, not infallible, but they represent the collective queries and replies of a few hundred C&D members over the years, before the growth of the internet and forums like this one. The early C&D issues from the 1970's are particularly useful references. Some more recent C&D back issues are still available from Harry Pugh, the founder and publisher. Other back issues can be found if you search websites for them. I'm lucky to have a complete set.

For modern wings from the Middle East, I'd say the more recent C&D back issues are your best bet. Let me know if you're looking for information on a particular country's para badges, and I'll be happy to share whatever info I may have. I may be able to pinpoint particular C&D back issues for you.

Regards,
Donovan

Thanks Guys, I've always considered para wings a minefield and shied away from them, but I've reached a point where I don't see much new Arab material so I am going to take a deep breath and plunge in. Its worrying because while Arab material is not as a rule faked it seems parachute material is?
