VIII Recce opinions
Hi,
I have been after one of these for a long time, but seeing how expensive they are and the number of fakes that are around I never really got close to buying one. that is until yesterday when I bought one. I think it is a good one, but just to be sure......... Regards, Albert

Are there any good quality reproductions of this badge? Ones that can deceive collectors.

There are lots of repros but none I have seen that come close to a real one. Cheers Brian

Looks good to me, usually the repro has a flat back, and has a chrome look to it.

V111 Recce Opinions
Hi
Hope you don't mind me butting in on this thread. I have attached a front and rear photo of a badge in my collection that I was given by my Uncle who although a Newfoundlander served with the Royal Artillery during the war. He had a small collection of badges and medals that were passed on to me when he died. This Recce badge was amongst them. I always wondered if it was polished and given to a sweetheart or if some members of the Squadron did this on purpose. When you look at the rear you can see that it was originally a other ranks badge. Posted just to see if there is a known reason rather than a possible reason. Cheers Arnhem |

Your pic of the back is too far out but it appears to be the early prototype without the brass overlay. I have seen these polished out like this before. A closer pic would be helpful but it looks like a good one. Cheers Brian

Yes, looks good.
That's a whole lot of polishing, must have been very bright and shiny when all polished up. I have a FGH and BCD cap badge very similar, all the veins in the maple leaf have been polished out. Maybe for walking out dress, a shiny piece of metal that stands out in the sunlight would not be very tactical in the field! Mike |
