Default 52nd (New Ontario) and 3rd DAC Sweetheart Badges

Hi all picked these up today. I assume they are sweethearts unless someone can tell me that some cap badges were worn with pins? They appear to be full size badges. These are my first CEF pieces so any comments are welcome. Cheers.

The finish on these suggests badges rather than sweethearts. Too bad about the damage to the 52nd, but still a nice badge. The 3 DAC is a scarce badge, good catch.

Thanks Bill. So were some CEF badges made and worn with pin backs? That's the question i'm struggling with. Cheers.

Yes, many CEF badges were fitted or retro-fitted with pin back badges. Welcome to the wonderful world of trying to understand CEF badges.

CEF is a study in progress. There are many variations for most battalion's badges and (suspiciously) new patterns are emerging from the woodwork. If one studies the threads on this and other Fora one can get a good education. Just be careful, as there are many reproductions out there, and more hitting the market every week.

I'm in Worcestershire, UK, so not many CEF badges around, but I'm always on the lookout.
