Probably lots of varieties for sure!
Perhaps if any of the members following this topic have photos of the MCS badge (die faults & all) they could post them, Bryan |

Nice idea - I, for one, would be extremely interested.

Just as a follow-up to the issue discussed earlier, and FYI for future refernce, HERE is an example with the line fault running from top-left to bottom-right. You'll need to enlarge the image to see it clearly. Cheers mate, Peter |

Mine Clearance Service Arm badge
Hi Peter and Bryan
Perhaps this was part of the previous thread for which you were looking. I have posted a photograph of my Grandfather's badge for comparison purposes if this helps. 100% genuine, it has been in the family since awarded in 1918. Best wishes Gordon |

Thanks for posting your grandfather's MCS badge, Gordon. Certainly no question as to the authenticity of this one; a really lovely example. Your family has evidently treated it with great respect.
I note that it also depicts the rope-type tethers. All the best, Peter. |

Another fault line?
I've revived this thread as I have a slight concern about an MCS badge that doesn't seem to have been discussed before. I'm aware of the fakes having a crack running top to bottom & left to right. The badge I purchased yesterday has a different fault line. It can be clearly seen on this badge, which recently appeared on ebay.
Does anyone think this is something to be concerned about? In all other ways the badge looks perfect. My Badge http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ictureid=47693 |

Heres a link to my one. It seems to have the same line as yours.

Here's the link to that eBay badge that sold on the 5th Aug: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250864004562&ssPageNam e=STRK:MEWAX:IT Having seen your badge in the flesh, it is my opinion (for what it's worth) that it is absolutely fine. This appraisal is based on the fact that other than the so-called 'fault' you refer to, it bears characteristics of a 'good' badge, namely:
This said, I am aware that these badges have been very widely copied. I would therefore be very interested in more exerienced members' opinions. PJ |

Peter. Your opinion is highly valued as always. I was unsure of this badge but you have certainly convinced me there's nothing to worry about. I'm still curious though. The imperfection (for want of a better word) appears to be a fairly common occurence. A significant number of MCS badges seem to have it. I've seen seven in total - 3 with & 4 without.

Tony,
Here are back and front images of a duff MCS badge. There are a number of points that single it out as a wrong 'un, but I use it to illustrate my earlier comment about the loops on these copies sometimes being positioned wider apart than on genuine badges. MCS Incorrect.jpg If you compare this with your own example, you will see that your loops are slightly closer together. PJ PS - Note the line fault, running top-left to bottom-right. Long time no speak. Hope all is well with you, mate. Yes, horns all wrong and I think we could pretty much pull this one to pieces with our eyes closed . Cheers, Peter. |
