Default SGTs - 13th Scottish Light Dragoons

Thought you might enjoy this photograph (I received it recently from a good friend of mine). There are some VERY INTERESTING items thoughout. Every time I look at it, I notice at least a couple of more points to ponder. Enjoy.

Interesting picture, Duncan.
Man with the "lemonsqueezer" hat looks like a Legion of Frontiersman.
Cheers, tinto

There are AT LEAST FIVE different head dress being worn in thi photo. And MANY "different" sergeants, as well.... And the badges, there is even what appears to be an RCD cap badge on the fellow centered in the first row. Just so many interesting observances in this picture.

Thanks Duncan. Some interesting details. In the first image the sergeant has the horse shoe trade badge for farrier. In the third image, it does look like the RCD cap badge and the springbok pattern helps date the image. The RCD's were approved that cap badge in 1908. Clive's new headdress book indicates stetsons were worn from 1886 into the post WW1 period. The uniforms make the image pre FWW.

The issue of Khaki Service Dress started in 1904 which helps narrow this even further. Great picture!

Interesting - Numeral "13" worn as a cap badge and the large collars which I believe were also worn as a cap badge.

The exact year of the photo is 1911 (at the base of the photo is written: Sargents 13th Dragoons Farnham Camp 1911). I guess it was difficult to see...

Good to see the analytic skills so the respondents were reasonably good. Thanks Duncan.
