It is certainly something I have pondered down the years too, I would be of the opinion that MMG badges date from mid 1915, I have encountered good original badges with the MMG deliberately removed.
Whilst there are photographs of the badges and handsome titles being worn, they tend to be undated, which certainly does not help matters.
I also think the founder members were actually drawn from the RA.

I have heard the MMG badges were worn only up until the MGC was formed but I can't recall ever having seen any images of them actually being worn by members of the MMGS. If they had been worn after the MGC was formed there would surely be more photographic evidence.
