Cavalry Staff Buttons
This has been puzzling me for some time.
In the back of Howard Ripley's "Buttons of the Regular Army 1855-2000" Mr Ripley published some interesting extracts from War Office papers held at Kew.
Page 63 Annex A part (ii)
The Trumpet Majors of the Cavalry Depot Maidstone should be supplied with the Cavalry Staff Buttons and not those of the "V.R." pattern. 4th January 1861.
I assume the "V.R." pattern are these shown below, but what was the Cavalry Staff Pattern?
